Password Protection - Submitted By: cr4ck3rj4ck 2008-08-19 10:48:21
Passwords are the most common implementation of security on computers these days. However, there are varying strengths of passwords and it is surprising how many people use a password which is easily guessable or obtainable.
Passwords often give user a false sense of security and are rarely implemented with due diligence.
The first note to make is that passwords should always be more than 8 characters. Anything shorter than this is almost useless.
It is also imperative that passwords are alphanumeric. This means that it contains a combination of both letters and numbers. An alphanumeric password is reasonably strong.
It is further recommended that passwords contain uppercase and lowercase letters.
Baring the above points in mind a strong password might appear like this: Cr4cKtH1sp455w0Rd.
Users should vary their passwords and should not use the same password for all logins. This is because if you use one password and that password is cracked, then access would be granted to all of your accounts, including emails!
